Kia Grand Carnival

Kia Motors Australia has donated a brand new Grand Carnival to a family in desperate need following their birth of quadruplets in March this year.

Against the odds, police officers Kerrie and Craig Perry delivered four beautiful bouncing baby girls on 23 March this year Imogen and Jessica and identical twins Bianca and Emma.

The couple's older daughter, Chelsey now two years old was born in April 2008, just one month after the family were told that there was little chance of any further children.

Despite the medical prognosis, Craig and Kerrie decided to try for a sibling for Chelsey ... with dramatic results.

In October 2009 an eight week scan revealed triplets. A follow up scan in January this year revealed a fourth child and on March 23 Kerrie gave birth to quadruplets by emergency caesarean.

A bout of the flu and a need to be cautious saw the girls finally released from hospital on 13 May. Prior to the girls release Craig and Kerrie conducted extensive research into the type of vehicle they would need for their new large family.

"Finding a car that could fit all five baby seats was hard," Kerry said.

"The Kia Grand Carnival is the only car with five anchor points fitted standard in Australia, the others you have to modify and we didn't want to do that. With the new laws children up to four years old need anchor points and have to be in child seats until they're seven."

Kia Motors Australia President and CEO Mr MK Kim said desperate times call for desperate measures.

"I understand that quadruplets are a very rare occurrence and was pleased to hear that the Kia Grand Carnival was the only car in Australia that could legally accommodate the family without modification," Mr Kim said.

"Over the coming years their lives will change dramatically but I am glad that the family will be able to travel as one in the Carnival.

"We also made a point of supplying the Perrys with the latest model Grand Carnival due to go on sale in Australia on June 1. Their new vehicle comes standard with a more economical engine, more safety features and a new smooth 6-speed automatic transmission. The five anchor points are critical, the additional safety features and added comfort will provide the Perrys with piece of mind."

Logistically everything is a challenge for the family. On a monthly basis the "quad squad" will go through 10 cans of formula, 900 nappies, 3150 wipes and will see some 2108 individual items including clothing, blankets, wraps and bibs go through the washing machine.
