Ssangyong has given its current top of the line Rexton 7-seat SUV a minor facelift with cleaner lines and some equipment changes

Ssangyong has given its current top of the line Rexton 7-seat SUV a minor facelift with cleaner lines and some equipment changes.

The Rexton boasts improved styling and is still powered by its clean and powerful 2.7 litre common rail turbo diesel engine.

Ssangyong has removed the sidesteps and the rear spoiler from the latest Rexton to give a cleaner, more stylish European appearance as well as adding 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with Desert Dueller tyres.

Rexton is a key component of Ssangyong Motors Australia's model line-up which has seen the company's entire SUV and dual cab ute range given sharper pricing, some added features and a continuation of the 100 percent pure diesel power philosophy.

The Rexton is available in two model variants, Rexton RX270 XDi priced from $36,990 (manual) with its standard turbo common rail diesel engine, and the flagship Rexton RX270 XVT SPR priced from $49,490 (auto) with variable geometry turbo and maximum equipment levels.

According to Ssangyong Motors Australia General Manager Jeff Barber, Rexton now not only boasts cleaner styling but is still one of the best value for money diesel SUVs in Australia delivering higher levels of safety, equipment and economy than any comparable SUV on the market.

"We have concentrated on ensuring Ssangyong buyers get value for money, stronger styling as well as high equipment levels, versatility, safety and performance and I believe we have achieved just that," said Mr Barber.

"Rexton is a good looking SUV and this has been enhanced with the minor facelift which has given it cleaner and tidier styling that will broaden its appeal," he said.

Rexton RX270 XDi offers 7-seat flexibility, the safety of four airbags ESP with traction control and active rollover protection (ARP) as well as climate control air conditioning with ducted rear zone for rear passengers, front fog lights, and 18 inch wheels with Desert Dueller tyres all as standard equipment.

It is powered by Ssangyong's European designed and engineered 2.7 litre five - cylinder turbo diesel engine, mated to either a five speed manual or five speed ‘Tiptronic" style automatic transmission and uses Smart Torque on Demand AWD. The RX270 XDi engine produces 121kW of power and 340Nm of torque.

The XDi's torque on demand all wheel drive system allocates drive to the rear wheels under normal conditions and should road conditions worsen and the wheels start to slip, the system will automatically transfer more torque to the front wheels for greater stability.

Rexton boasts a full 2300kg towing capacity and runs a full chassis for added strength and off road integrity.

Meanwhile the top of the line Rexton RX270 SPR boasts all of the features included in the XDi variant along with full leather trim, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, reverse parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, automatic lights and self dipping rear view mirror.

A five speed T-Tronic automatic transmission and permanent AWD is standard on the Rexton SPR while it boasts more power and torque than the XDi thanks to its latest generation variable geometry turbocharger, which delivers 137kW of power and 402 Nm of torque while averaging fuel consumption of just 9.2 litres per 100km.

Maximum torque is delivered over virtually the entire rev range, providing quick engine response and outstanding acceleration when passing.

"Rexton XDi is well equipped but the SPR model boasts every luxury feature available in the Ssangyong catalogue, as well as the variable geometry turbo and permanent four wheel drive," said Jeff Barber.

Built on an ultra-rigid frame, Rexton features triple-layer construction built to absorb and disperse shocks and impacts of all kinds. This results in less vibration during normal operation, longer durability overall and greater safety in a collision.

All new Ssangyong vehicles sold in Australia come with the peace-of-mind afforded by a 3 year/100,000 kilometre factory warranty with Ssangyong Assist 24/7 roadside assistance.
