BMW Australia today confirmed pricing for the mid-life make-over of its highly successful BMW X5, due to arrive in dealerships next month.

The multi-award winning BMW X5, which has been the top-selling luxury Sports Activity Vehicle in Australia for the past seven years, will receive new engine variants, new driver assistance systems, increased standard specification and a set of distinctive cosmetic enhancements.

Each variant also offers substantial improvements in power and fuel economy over the previous model thanks to innovations from the BMW EfficientDynamics stable of technologies.

Manufacturer Recommended List Prices* start at $92,100 for the ultra-efficient turbo diesel, BMW X5 xDrive30d, which accelerates from 0 – 100km/h in just 7.6 seconds, yet achieves average fuel consumption of only 7.4 l per 100km - a 15 per cent improvement in fuel consumption over the previous model.

The mid-life update also introduces three new nameplates to the X5.

The new BMW X5 xDrive40d replaces the X5 xDrive35d. It features an all-aluminium straight six-cylinder engine with TwinPower Turbo and Common Rail direct injection. It develops a maximum power output of 225 kW and 600 Nm of torque, an increase of 15 kW and 20 Nm respectively over its predecessor. As a result, the X5 xDrive40d sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds compared to 7.0 seconds for the outgoing X5 xDrive35d. At the same time, the X5 xDrive40d offers a15 per cent improvement in fuel consumption, sipping just 7.5 litres/100.

The BMW X5 xDrive35i replaces the BMW X5 xDrive30i and will be powered by a new straight six-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo, High Precision Injection and VALVETRONIC, which propels the X5 xDrive35i from 0-100 km in just 6.8 seconds compared to the BMW X5 xDrive30i taking 8.1 seconds. Despite this considerable jump in performance, it consumes just 10.1 litres per 100 km, compared to 11.7 for its predecessor.

The top of the range BMW X5 xDrive50i Sport brings to the table a new 300 kW V8 engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo and direct petrol injection (High Precision Injection). Replacing the BMW X5 xDrive48i, the new V8 receives a power increase of 39 kW and a massive boost in torque. It now develops 600 Nm (up from 355 Nm) at 1,750 – 4,500rpm. The X5 xDrive50i covers the 0-100 km sprint in just 5.5 seconds, an improvement of 1.1 seconds over its predecessor.

All versions of the new BMW X5 are equipped with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The new BMW X5 also includes the speed-dependent Servotronic steering assist system with Active Steering available as an option. For those wanting the optimum road handling, Adaptive Drive is also available providing drivers and passengers with minimal body roll as well as variable damping control.

The exterior design of the new BMW X5 is characterised by redesigned front and rear aprons that clearly visualise a marked increase in driving dynamics and increase in power.  The front apron receives larger side air intakes and central air dam, whilst modifications to the rear apron also express a powerful yet elegant presence.

Additionally, dual round Bi-Xenon headlamps (featured as standard in the BMW X5 xDrive 50i Sport and included in the Innovations Package) are also fitted with new LED corona rings and serve as premium and effective daytime running lights. The L-shaped, redesigned taillights, each with two homogeneously illuminated LED light banks, reflect the brand-typical night-time design of the rear end.

Within the framework of BMW ConnectedDrive, the new BMW X5 offers a multitude of unique driver assistance systems and services for optimising comfort, safety and for the use of the infotainment functions. In addition to the Head-up Display, Adaptive Headlights, High-Beam Assistant, Park Distance Control and reversing camera with new Top View, the functions Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Departure Warning and Side View are all new to the BMW X5.

Added-Value Option Packages for the new BMW X5                     
Based on the strong take-up rates of its options packages, BMW Australia has added even greater value to these highly-popular packages for the new BMW X5:

Executive Package
Available only on the X5 xDrive30d, the Executive Package includes a Rear View Camera with Top View, Interior/exterior mirrors with anti-dazzle function, Electrical seat adjustment and Navigation system Professional.

Innovations Package
The Innovations Package (not available on X5 xDrive30d) for the BMW X5 bundles a range of cutting-edge BMW technologies such as Comfort Access and the Automatic Tailgate function, at a reduced cost. The Innovations Package for the X5 xDrive35i and X5 xDrive40d Sport grows to include a sunroof and comfort access. And in the case of the X5 xDrive50i Sport, an alarm system and metallic paint are also included in the package.

Sport Package
The Sport Package is now a standard feature on the new BMW X5 xDrive40d Sport and the xDrive50i Sport and includes two new alloy wheel styles as well as interior and exterior enhancements to complete the new X5’s sporting appeal. The BMW X5 xDrive50i Sport has self-leveling rear suspension as standard while the X5 xDrive40d Sport comes standard with sport suspension which customers can choose to remove, as a non-cost option, if preferred.

M Sport Package
A new look of the M Sport Package adds to the athletic presence and on-road prowess of the new BMW X5. The new front bumper design, V-8 exhaust pipe design for all engine variants and standard 20” light alloy wheels give a muscular and exceptionally sporty style. Sport suspension can now also be deleted from the Package as a non-cost option.

The new BMW X5 is available in Australian dealerships from late June.
