Toyota's Hybrid Camry gets five-star rating from Green Vehicle Guide.

Toyota's Hybrid Camry has been awarded the maximum five stars on the Federal Government's Green Vehicle Guide.

It is the only Australian-built car - and one of only 15 models available on the local market - to attract the five-star rating.

Toyota is the only manufacturer with three cars that qualifies for the top five-star rating.

Two of those cars are petrol-electric hybrids - Hybrid Camry and Prius, while the third is one of Australia's most popular small cars, Yaris.

Prius is ranked at the top of the list, Hybrid Camry 8th and Yaris, with 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines and manual transmission, is 7th.

Hybrid Camry gets its five-star rating with CO2 emissions of just 142 grams/km and fuel economy of just 6.0 litres/100km.*

Equivalent figures for Prius are 89 grams and 3.9 litres/100km* while the leading Yaris models achieve 141 grams and 6.0 litres/100km*.

These figures make Hybrid Camry the most fuel-efficient Australian-built car, enabling motorists to slash fuel bills and reduce environmental impact compared with other similar-sized family cars.

The Green Vehicle Guide is designed to help consumers by rating new Australian vehicles based on greenhouse and air pollution emissions.

"By choosing a greener vehicle, you can make a real difference," the Guide says.

Information in the Green Vehicle Guide has recently been expanded to include details on safety equipment.

It shows Hybrid Camry is equipped with vehicle stability control and six airbags - front and side airbags for the driver and front-seat passenger plus curtain-shield airbags that offer protection for front and rear occupants.
