Following a massive turn out of fans for the inaugural All American Lakeside on July 4 this year, Queensland Raceways has announced the second instalment of U.S. themed events with Thanksgiving at Lakeside on Sunday, November 28.
The event is being driven by the 20,000 members Queensland’s American car clubs who are set on making the Lakeside Thanksgiving Day celebration the ultimate date on the Aussie calendar for the finest of US auto engineering & styling.
Open to all cars manufactured in the USA, Thanksgiving at Lakeside will consist of a massive show ‘n’ shine (more than 500 cars were on display in July, with many more expected in November), open cruise and club cruise sessions on the legendary Lakeside circuit and a multi-event track session dubbed the “tri-carthlon”.
Consisting of an 1/8-mile drag on the main straight, a 950m hill-climb around Karussell, a 200m slalom around the Eastern Loop and finishing with a second run on the drag strip, the tri-carthlon gives participants the chance to line up twice against their mate for bragging rights and to smoke their tyres without incurring the wrath of the law.
There are only 50 slots available for the tri-carthlon with pre-entry a must. Entry forms will be available from www.queenslandraceway.com.au from October 4.
Thanksgiving at Lakeside is designed as a great fun day with equipment-friendly events for social car fans, rather than fierce track competitors. Two of the American car clubs have also decided to take advantage of Lakeside Park’s wide-ranging function facilities, booking in their club Christmas Parties for Thanksgiving night in the Lakeside Room.
With fourteen clubs already locked in for the show ’n’ shine there will be a vast array of makes and models on display from the likes of Pontiac, Studebaker, Chevrolet, Ford, Cadillac and Chrysler to name just a few. Cars from pristine stockers, Sunday cruisers and family sedans to hot rods, low-riders, drag cars and circuit racers will provide more auto eye candy than you can possibly consume in one pass.
Lakeside Park’s Retro Bistro in the Lakeside Function Centre will fire up the American cuisine of hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and apple pie to go with their superb espresso coffee. Additional food, coffee and cold drink outlets will also be positioned around Lakeside Park’s infield.
Thanksgiving at Lakeside, set on the banks of gorgeous Lake Kurwongbah, promises a stunning visual feast of American automotive machinery unrivalled anywhere in Australia.
